The organizer and first director of the Institute for more than 25 years was Academician Yuri Shokin. In 2020, the Institute was granted the status of a federal research center with the name "Federal Research Center of Information and Computational Technologies". The Institute currently employs 289 staff, including 107 researchers, 1 Academician (Full Member of the RAS), 1 Corresponding Member of the RAS, 35 Doctors of Sciences and 58 Doctors of Sciences. There is a postgraduate course at the Institute.
The main research interests of the institute are: information and computer technologies in decision-making problems, mathematical and information modeling, related experimental research in the field of continuum mechanics and fracture mechanics, physics, chemistry, biology, energy, medicine, space exploration, environmental science and complex processing of raw materials, geophysics, hydrometeorology and environmental management, prevention and response to natural and man-made disasters. Scientific and methodological guidance of ICT SB RAS is carried out by the Department of Nanotechnologies and Information Technologies of the RAS and the Joint Scientific Council on Nano and Information Technologies of the SB RAS. Academician Yuri Shokin founded a well-known scientific school. The main emphasis of the school is on the development of mathematical modeling, information and computational technologies methods for decision-making problems arising in the design and maintenance of complex technological systems and objects, monitoring the environment, predicting the consequences of natural and man-made disasters.
