Despite the Bologna Process, which replaced most traditional academic degree courses such as the Diplom and the Magister Artium with the more internationally known Bachelor and Master system, the University of Munich continues to offer over 100 fields of study with a large number of major and minor combinations. In line with the internationalization of the university as a popular destination for higher education, an increasing number of English courses are taught in English, mostly at graduate and postgraduate levels, to appeal to international students with little or no knowledge of German. Currently, English-language programs include psychology, physics, business administration and various management fields. The university consists of 18 faculties overseeing various departments and institutes. The official numbering of the faculties and the absence of the numbers 06 and 14 are due to the fact that faculties have split up and merged in the past. The Faculty of Forestry Management with number 06 was incorporated into the Technical University of Munich in 1999, and faculty 14 was merged with faculty 13.
