To date, the core areas "International Health" (International Health Center), "Oral Sciences" (Poliklinik für Zahnerhaltung und Parodontologie), "Epidemiology and Public Health" (IBE), "Lung Biology and Diseases" (Comprehensive Pneumology Center, Helmholtz) and "Genome and Molecular Medicine - Personalized Approaches to Child Health" are offered.
In addition, research training groups ("Graduiertenkollegs") and collaborative research centers ("Sonderforschungsbereiche") offer their students the opportunity to award a doctoral degree within the scope of the "Doctoral Medical Research" examination regulations.
As a central point of contact, the MMRS office assists the faculty in an advisory capacity in all matters related to the development of new doctoral core areas and the conduct of doctoral studies.
The MMRS office is also the central administrative unit where all matters related to doctoral studies are managed. A central database of all students is maintained, admissions and examinations are organized, and certificates and degrees are prepared and distributed.
All doctoral students automatically become members of the MMRS when they are accepted to the faculty as doctoral candidates.
